Hundreds of thousands of Disney fans flooded the Anaheim Convention Center this past weekend for the third semi-annual D23 Expo.

The official Disney convention included highlights like the Mousequerade costume contest, exclusive merchandise, celebrity appearances and special announcements.

One of the biggest reveals of the weekend was the announcement of a “Star Wars”-themed land at Disneyland, in Anaheim, and Disney World, in Florida. The new areas will allow guests to interact with “Star Wars” characters, explore a new planet in the “Star Wars” galaxy and pilot the Millennium Falcon. Construction is set to begin in 2017.

The Iron Man Experience at Hong Kong Disneyland, also announced over the weekend, will be the first Marvel attraction at any Disney theme park. Former Marvel President Stan Lee surprised the crowd on Saturday to help announce the new ride.

Other celebrity appearances at D23 Expo included Chris Evans, Harrison Ford, James Cameron, Lana Parrilla and Ginnifer Goodwin.

In the Mousequerade contest, participants showed off their best homemade character outfits for a chance to win a trip to Disney’s Aulani resort in Hawaii. Contestants dressed in elaborate outfits inspired by Disney rides, films and culture as well as Disneyland’s 60th anniversary.

Popular costumes included Ursula from “The Little Mermaid” and Queen Elsa from “Frozen.” Elizabeth Oldak, who dressed as the Yeti from the Matterhorn Bobsleds ride at Disneyland, was announced as the first place winner.

Many fans dressed up as Disney characters throughout the convention. Popular choices included characters from “Frozen,” “The Haunted Mansion” and the Marvel universe.

Those not in costume had the chance to become Disney-fied as they got their hair done in buns like Tinkerbell, had their nails decorated like Minnie Mouse and had temporary Disney tattoos applied for free.
