This is one giant burger

Move over, filet mignon. The hamburger is having a pricey moment.

JT Schmid’s Restaurant & Brewery in Anaheim offers what it calls the Bigger, Badder Asser Burger at an indulgent price: $60.

The 12-inch burger is 6 pounds of meat between a brioche bun, with three tomatoes, a half pound of lettuce, pickles, onions and homemade Thousand Island dressing. For $10 more, diners can add 30 slices of bacon. Also available are extras like avocado, mushrooms, cheese and jalapenos.

The burger comes with four side orders, the typical selections being tater tots and sweet potato, French and shoe-string fries. Chipotle aioli and spicy and regular ketchup are included. It is all served on a silver platter.

“We wanted a signature burger that was different,” said Jason Schmid, president and owner of the restaurant. “We don’t sell a ton, but it’s an item people love because it’s fun for birthdays, going-away parties and celebrations.”

The featured menu item can serve up to eight people. Only two customers have finished it at their tables, Schmid said.

Chefs cook three meat patties separately to keep the burger from tasting like a giant serving of meatloaf. The restaurant orders special buns that don’t easily crumble under the weight of all that ground beef. Preparation takes 20 to 30 minutes.

The mammoth burger is available after 7:30 p.m. on nights when there is an event at the nearby Honda Center. It is also offered on holidays — Father’s Day included.

The Tustin location of JT Schmid’s, in The District, carries the burger as well.

Waitress Jennie Huynh, who has worked at the Anaheim location on Katella Avenue for four years, was among the first to serve the entree.

“It’s a lot of fun for people to order it and for me to sell it,” said Huynh.

Huynh said that when she first served the giant burger, customers couldn’t finish it and would ask for a to-go box. She turned to the chef and was only able to secure two pizza boxes and foil. Today, leftovers go in special cake boxes.

Other restaurants also serve big burgers.

The Catch in Anaheim offers The O.M.G. Burger, which overwhelms with 5 pounds of meat, 16 slices of cheddar, pickles, tomatoes, onion and lettuce. It comes with 5 pounds of seasoned fries and sells for $64.99.

And if you think $60 to $65 is a little over the top, consider the $1,768 Glamburger at the Honky Tonk restaurant in London. A Kobe Wagyu beef patty from Japan is topped with black truffle, lobster, venison, a duck egg, beluga caviar and an edible gold leaf.

Ketchup unnecessary.
