Outrigger Resorts Invitational

HONOLULU — Sophomore outside hitter Tamir Hershko had 11 kills and hit .471 to lead No. 8-ranked UC Irvine to a 26-24, 25-21, 25-22 sweep of No. 14-ranked Ohio State on Friday, the second day of the three-day event at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Senior opposite Zack La Cavera had nine kills and two aces, while junior Kyle Russell contributed eight kills and four aces for the Anteaters (2-1).

Michael Saeta had 32 assists for the winners.

On Thursday, the Anteaters knocked off No. 3-ranked Penn State, 25-17, 25-18, 18-25, 22-25, 15-7, in the opening round of the tournament.

Hershko and La Cavera had 17 kills apiece and hit .464 and .412, respectively to lead the ‘Eaters, who hit .352 as a team, 212 points better than the Nittany Lions.

Saeta had 42 assists, while Jason Agopian and La Cavera had eight and seven block assists, respectively.

Hershko had a career-high five aces.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Orange Coast 86, Fullerton 59

FULLERTON — Brad Buchignani had 18 to lead five Pirates starters who scored in double figures in the Orange Empire Conference game Friday.

Davasyia Hagger had 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Deion Page had 15 points for OCC (3-11, 1-1 in conference).

Fullerton is 2-15, 0-2.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Fullerton 70, Orange Coast 35

FULLERTON — Jasmine Matar had 12 points to lead the visiting Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference game Friday.

OCC (3-13, 0-2 in conference) shot 16.4% from the field (10 for 61), including three for 27 from three-point range.

Fullerton is 12-5, 1-1.
