Defender Mikayla Edwards of Huntington Beach and midfielder Marissa Lynch of Fountain Valley are among 36 players who were recently called up for the second U.S. Under-14 Girls National Team training camp that began Saturday and ends this Saturday at the U.S. Soccer National Training Center in Carson.

Edwards plays for the Newport Beach FC Slammers and Lynch plays for the Irvine Slammers.

The majority of the players selected by Coach April Kater were born in 1999 — the year the USA won the historic FIFA Women’s World Cup in front of more than 90,000 fans at the Rose Bowl.

The U14 girls will play two intrasquad scrimmages during the camp, the final one being Friday at 10 a.m.

There is one more girls’ U14 came scheduled this year, in December, which will feature a 36-player roster.
