Sargeant is a first-team All-Sunset League pick

Newport Harbor High senior guard Nic Sargeant garnered first-team All-Sunset League boys’ basketball accolades for the second straight season.

Sargeant led the Sailors to a third-place finish in the Sunset League, the program’s best season in league in six seasons, and to the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 2AA playoffs. The postseason appearance was the second in a row for Newport Harbor (14-14, 5-5 in league), marking its first back-to-back appearance since the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons.

Sargeant averaged 17.5 points per game, the second-best average in the Newport-Mesa area.

Los Alamitos’ Khalid Washington earned the Sunset League MVP award.
