UCI’s Sicard advances to NCAA Championships

NCAA West Region preliminaries

AUSTIN, Texas — UC Irvine sophomore Lloyd Sicard earned a berth in the NCAA Championships by winning his heat and posted the second-best time among 12 qualifiers in the 110-meter high hurdles on Saturday.

The reigning Big West Conference champion smashed his own school record with a time of 13.60 seconds in the quarterfinals.

The NCAA Championships are June 10-13 in Eugene, Ore.

Sicard’s previous best had been 13.79 at the Steve Scott Invitational on May 2.

He will compete in the semifinals of the national meet June 10 at 5:02 p.m. at legendary Hayward Field.

Sicard is the first member of the program to compete at the NCAA Championships since 2012, when Charles Jock won the 800.

NCAA West Region preliminaries

AUSTIN, Texas — UC Irvine sophomore Megan George finished 17th among 24 competitors in the quarterfinal round of the 100-meter hurdles on Saturday.

Her time of 13.65 seconds was not good enough to earn one of 12 berths in the NCAA Championships.

George won the Big West Conference title on May 16 with a school-record time of 13.51.
