High School Football: Sea Kings collect honors in Pacific Coast League

Corona del Mar High senior defensive end Parker Chase took home the Pacific Coast League MVP honor, while sophomore quarterback Chase Garbers and senior middle linebacker Hoyt Crance garnered the Offensive and Defensive MVP awards, respectively, after lifting the Sea Kings to their third straight undefeated league football championship.

Chase, Garbers and Crance are three of a dozen players from CdM (10-2, 5-0 in league) on the first team. The top-seeded Sea Kings exited the CIF Southern Section Southwest Division playoffs in the quarterfinals, losing at Trabuco Hills, 28-10, to halt a bid for a fourth straight section title.

The other Sea Kings receiving first-team recognition are senior wide receiver Bo St. Geme, senior receiver Cole Collins, junior offensive tackle Mitch Dean, senior offensive tackle Jack Pagliassotti, senior cornerback Brett Greenlee, senior safety Barrett Barbato, senior defensive end Harrison Carter, senior defensive tackle Justin Hess and senior safety/linebacker Hugh Crance.

Chase, a two-time first-team member, registered 22 sacks, a CdM single-season record. He made 103 tackles, batted down four passes and recovered a fumble.

Garbers completed 108 of 154 passes for 1,356 yards and 11 touchdowns, with two interceptions. He rushed 77 times for 236 yards and nine touchdowns.

Hoyt Crance, a repeat first-team selection, totaled 84 tackles and two sacks.

St. Geme finished with 56 catches for 837 yards and six touchdowns, leaving him as CdM’s career leader in receptions (154) and receiving yards (2,113). St. Geme is on the first team for the second straight time.

Collins, a repeat first-team selection, had 48 receptions for 599 yards and six touchdowns.

Greenlee, a two-time first-team honoree, intercepted four passes. He returned two interceptions for touchdowns in the postseason.

Greenlee, who made 23 tackles, blocked two field-goal attempts and an extra-point try.

Barbato finished with 42 tackles.

Hess had 58 tackles, 6.5 sacks, three passes batted down, one forced fumble and a blocked punt.

Carter, on the second team again, had 46 tackles, 10.5 sacks, four passes batted down, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble.

Hugh Crance finished with 54 tackles and two interceptions.

The Sea Kings’ second-team picks were senior tailback Cole Martin, senior cornerback Chad Redfearn and senior defensive tackle Mat Flores.
