Oronde Crenshaw favors Arizona State

Costa Mesa High senior standout Oronde Crenshaw said on Wednesday that he has verbally committed to play football at Arizona State University, but he is also weighing other options.

“[I’m] still wanting more offers to come so I can decide on what’s best for me and my family,” said Crenshaw, adding that he has drawn serious interest from Missouri, Utah, Colorado, Nevada, Colorado State, Army and Azusa Pacific. “But ASU is big for my family, especially my mom [Lilia] because she loves the Arizona atmosphere and how nice everyone is out there. Even though it can be hot, we really like it up there.

“Honestly, I would love to play college football anywhere … just to have the blessing to live and play football is enough for me.”

Crenshaw, who is 6-foot and 197 pounds, starred in all facets of the game for Costa Mesa, as a running back, middle linebacker and kick returner. He said colleges are recruiting him to play strong safety.

Crenshaw earned All-CIF Southern Section Southern Division and All-Orange Coast League MVP honors in his final season with the Mustangs, leading them to their first undefeated league title in five years and to the postseason. Crenshaw rushed for 1,971 yards and 28 touchdowns, totaled 120 tackles and four interceptions, and returned three kickoffs for touchdowns.
