High School Roundup: Eagles, Sea Kings tie

BOYS’ SOCCER

Estancia 2, Corona del Mar 2

Liam Stimson scored off a set piece with about a minute left, allowing the visiting Sea Kings to salvage a tie in Wednesday’s nonleague match at Jim Scott Stadium.

Sophomore forward Kevin Pizarro scored first for Estancia (4-1-1), his team-leading sixth goal, to give the Eagles a 1-0 halftime lead. CdM scored in the 60th minute on Max Premer’s goal, but the Eagles took the lead five minutes later on a long shot by Marco Pineda.

Abraham Cortez assisted both goals for Estancia, and keeper Enrique Valle made five saves.

CdM’s Tommy Casey made his first appearance in goal and had three second-half saves.

Estancia plays host to Canyon in its North Orange County Classic pool-play opener Friday at 7 p.m.

The Sea Kings (2-2-2) travel to Tesoro on Friday for a nonleague match at 3:30 p.m.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Costa Mesa 53, Newport Harbor 40

Senior guard Danielle Obong led the Mustangs with 18 points and four three-pointers in a nonleague home game on Wednesday.

Bela Raimondi and McKenna Izzi each had 12 points for the Sailors (5-5).

Corona del Mar 63, Dana Hills 20

DANA POINT — Sophomore guard Kelly Tam finished with 17 points and three three-pointers in the Sea Kings’ nonleague game on Wednesday.

Melody Yoo had 11 points with three threes for CdM (6-3) and Maria King added eight points.

The Sea Kings play Ocean View at the Dan Hills North-South Challenge on Saturday at 3 p.m.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Corona del Mar 77, Magnolia 32

WESTMINSTER — Senior forward Kevin Manchester finished with 14 points for the Sea Kings in the first round of the Westminster Charlie Wilkins Memorial Tournament on Wednesday.

Blake Flamson had 14 points and Sam Kobrine 13.

The Sea Kings (5-1) resume tournament play against Santa Fe Christian on Thursday at Westminster High at 7:30 p.m.

Newport Harbor 58, Cypress 48

CYPRESS — Senior Nic Sargeant had 22 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Sailors in the quarterfinals of the Oxford Academy tournament Wednesday at Oxford Academy.

Junior Chase Davis added 10 points and five assists for the Sailors (6-3).

Newport Harbor plays Valley Christian in the tournament semifinals Friday at 6 p.m.

WRESTLING

Irvine 52, Corona del Mar 12

David Kaye, a 113-pound sophomore, earned a 5-4 decision for the Sea Kings, who opened Pacific Coast League action at home against defending champion Irvine on Wednesday.

Chris Croxton, at 126 pounds, scored a second-period pin.

CdM (4-3) travels to Newport Harbor for the Battle of the Bay on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Capistrano Valley 41, Newport Harbor 29

Paul Champol, a 132-pound senior, was one of six Sailors to win matches during a nonleague dual meet on Wednesday.

The other five winners for Newport Harbor (1-6) were Carlos Martinez (152 pounds), James Pilz (160), Evan Perez (170), Roberto Rivera (195) and Max Spruill (heavyweight).
