Vanguard 82, Great Falls 72

CHANDLER, Az. — Sophomore forward Zach Allmon made nine of 10 field-goal attempts on his way to a team-high 19 points to lead the Lions in the opening round of the Arizona tournament at Chandler-Gilbert Community College on Thursday.

Allmon had a team-best seven rebounds, while adding three assists and three steals.

Senior Chris Gorman had 18 points and three steals, while Kwinn Hanson came off the bench to chip in 15 points for the Lions (8-4).

Vanguard shot 54.2% from the field (32 for 59) and had 12 turnovers, 10 fewer than the Argos (7-3).

Vanguard faces No. 13-ranked Rocky Mountain College, which defeated the Lions, 95-82, on Nov. 25, on Friday at 7 p.m. PST.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Cal State Bakersfield 68, UC Irvine 65

Raelyn Cheung-Sutton and Mokun Fajemisin had 16 points apiece for the host Anteaters in the nonconference game Tuesday.

Senior Methlyn Onogomuho had 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Anteaters (1-9), who have lost six straight.

Fajemisin had eight rebounds and a team-best two steals, while Cheung-Sutton led the team with seven assists.

Shereen Sutherland had 11rebounds and five points for UCI.

Cal State Bakersfield is 7-3.
