‘HOGO’ wins regional title

Newport Beach resident and longtime AYSO Coach Adam Muchnick’s U-10 HOGO team from the Corona del Mar Region 57 AYSO won the regional finals last weekend.

HOGO is an acronym for “Hustle Our Guts Out,” a team name that Muchnick has coined for many years with his older sons, and now with his youngest son, Ross.

This group of boys certainly enjoyed learning the game of soccer and important life lessons that they can apply both on and off the field. The team record this fall was 18-0.

The HOGO boys won the regional playoffs after four hard-fought games in the rain, mud and wind at Tustin Sports Park.

The semifinal was an exciting, come from-behind victory to beat Tustin, 4-3, and then the championship game was a strong performance against the other Corona del Mar team that ended in a 5-0 victory.

The boys will now move on to the sectional playoffs, which take place in February.

The team consisted of the following boys: Ross Muchnick, Mason Dimeo, Ayden Niknafs, Zach Harris, Nick Bryant, Connor Rivas, Theo Hudson, Aden Stein, Marc Gonzalez, Jasper Mahmood, Collin Choe and Jacob Rykoff.
