Halftime: CdM 10, Nordhoff 0

Corona del Mar High’s football team looks to continue its historic season.

The Sea Kings jumped out to a 10-0 first-quarter lead against Ojai Nordhoff and that is where the two teams stand at halftime of the CIF State Southern California Regional Division III Bowl Game on Saturday at Orange Coast College.

The winner advances to the CIF State Division III Bowl Game on Dec. 21 at the StubHub Center in Carson at noon.

The Sea Kings, the three-time CIF Southern Section Southern Division champions, blocked two punts and intercepted two passes in the first half.

The first of Robby Hoffman’s two blocked punts led to CdM points. Jason Neiger converted a 32-yard field goal with 4:39 left in the first quarter, giving CdM a 3-0 lead against Nordhoff.

Almost two minutes later, defensive back Matt Deverian intercepted a pass and returned it 46 yards for a touchdown to put CdM up, 10-0.

Safety Charlie Griffin picked off quarterback Tanner Workman in the second quarter, stopping a Nordhoff threat in the red zone.
