CdM to play in CIF State Southern California Regional Division III Bowl Game

By winning the CIF Southern Section Southern Division championship, Corona del Mar High’s football team earned a berth into the CIF State Southern California Regional Division III Bowl Game.

The Sea Kings (14-0), who won its unprecedented third straight Southern Division title Friday at Orange Coast College, returns to OCC Saturday to face Ojai Nordhoff (13-1), starting at 7:30 p.m.

CdM has won a school-record 24 games and punched its ticket to the state bowl game by pulling away from previously unbeaten Garden Grove (13-1) in the second half.

Sophomore running back Anthony Battista shined with 163 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries, helping lead the Sea Kings to a 42-21 victory.

The winner of Saturday’s game advances to face the North Division III champion in the CIF State Division III Championship Bowl Game, scheduled for Dec. 21 at noon at the StubHub Center in Carson.

The North regional championship game features Atherton Sacred Heart Prep (12-1) against El Cerrito (12-2) also on Saturday night at De Anza High in Richmond.

Tickets for Saturday night’s game are $12 for general admission and $8 for students, children, and senior citizens age 65 or over.

There are 500 general tickets and 500 student/child/senior tickets available at CdM. There are no online ticket sales.

For those not able to purchase tickets before the game, the ticket booths at the game open at 5:30 p.m. and the stadium gates open at 6:30 p.m.
