Sea Kings win third straight Southern Division title

The Corona del Mar High football team is still perfect.

The top-seeded Sea Kings took over in the second half, beating second-seeded Garden Grove, 42-21, in the CIF Southern Section Southern Division championship at Orange Coast College on Friday, giving CdM an unprecedented third straight section title.

The Sea Kings improved to 14-0 for the first time in the program’s history. They outscored Garden Grove, 28-7, in the final two quarters.

Tailback Anthony Battista sparked CdM with 163 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries. Quarterback Luke Napolitano sneaked in for two touchdowns and he threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Bo St. Geme.

The Sea Kings most likely clinched a berth into next week’s CIF State Southern California Regional Division III Bowl Game, the play-in contest for the CIF State Division III Bowl Game. CdM went into the week ranked No. 1 in the CalHiSports.com CIF State Bowl Game Division III South poll. Garden Grove (13-1) was No. 2.
