Women’s Volleyball: Pickrell on conference all-freshman team

UC Irvine outside hitter Cassidy Pickrell has been named to the Big West Conference All-Freshman Team to highlight Anteaters recognized by coaches’ all-conference voting in women’s volleyball.

The 6-foot-1 Pickrell had 245 kills and averaged 2.69 per set. She was ranked fourth in the conference with 29 aces and a .32 average while picking up 116 digs.

UCI senior outside hitter Aly Squires and sophomore outside hitter Marisa Bubica received honorable mention.

The 6-3 Bubica averaged three kills per set to lead the Anteaters, who finished 14-16, 5-11 in conference play.

The 6-1 Squires received honorable mention two previous years. She averaged 3.39 points per set and amassed 337 kills, averaging 2.88 per set. She was second on the team with 309 digs and third on the squad with 79 total blocks.

Emily Hartong (Hawaii) was the Player of the Year while Ali Spindt (UC Santa Barbara) was the Freshman of the Year. Jeff Stork of Cal State Northridge and Nicole Lantagne Welch of UCSB shared Coach of the Year honors.
