JC Football: OCC duo, Truxton on first team

Sophomore receiver Mark Munson, who set the Orange Coast College single-season receptions record this fall, leads a list of 11 Pirates honored on the Southern California Football Assn. All-Southern Conference teams.

Munson, who had 68 catches for 989 yards and eight touchdowns was joined on the first team by OCC freshman receiver Davasyia Hagger, as well as Golden West College freshman receiver and kick returner Quest Truxton, a Newport Harbor High product.

Munson’s receiving yards rank No. 2 in OCC single-season annals and he ranked No. 2 in the 37-school SCFA in receiving yards per game (98.9). He was No. 7 in the state in receiving yards per game, tied for fifth in total receptions, and fifth in total receiving yards.

Truxton had 50 receptions for 841 yards and eight touchdowns for the Rustlers (7-4), who earned a berth in the Beach Bowl. Truxton, recognized as an all-purpose player, also produced 412 yards on 16 kickoff returns (25.8 per return with a long of 78). He returned 13 punts for 79 yards to give him 1,332 all-purpose yards for the season.

Hagger had 43 catches for 620 and six touchdowns.

OCC freshman quarterback Kody Whitaker, whose 2,093 passing yards and 175 completions rank second in OCC single-season annals, was among four Pirates named to the second-team offense.

OCC was represented by five players on the second-team defense, including sophomore outside linebacker Paul Swanson, who led the team with 73 tackles.

Whitaker, who threw 16 touchdown passes, helped OCC rank No. 4 in the SCFA and seventh in the state in passing yards per game (261.6).

Freshman running back Kyle White, who closed the season with 240 rushing yards and three touchdowns in a 42-41 conference win at Grossmont, was a second-team pick for OCC. He had 581 yards and five touchdowns on 119 carries for the season.

Other OCC players on the second-team offense were sophomore tackle Jeff Mansfield and freshman guard Brett Landon. They helped OCC rank No. 14 in the SCFA in total offense (398.4 yards per game).

Sophomore tackle Re’Shon Howard, freshman linebacker Mike Hayden, freshman cornerback Derrick Worthy and sophomore punter Jake Ambrose were additional OCC players on the second-team defense.

Howard, a 6-3, 235-pounder, had 67 tackles to rank No. 3 on the 3-7 squad, including a team-best four sacks.

Hayden, who played middle and outside linebacker, was second on the team with 69 tackles. He had one sack, one interception and one fumble recovery.

Swanson also had 2.5 sacks, one interception and one fumble recovery.

Ambrose averaged 40.3 yards on 55 punts, including a long of 60 yards.

Worthy had 27 tackles, one interception and one fumble recovery.

Golden West sophomore quarterback Chris d’Entremont was Offensive Player of the Year.

Palomar sophomore end Dylan Donahue was Defensive Player of the Year and Fullerton’s Tim Byrnes was Coach of the Year.
