PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The No. 11-seeded Friars scored on a free kick in the 77th minute of the round of 16 match in the NCAA Tournament on Sunday.

Markus Naglestad drove a free kick inside the left post to end the season for the Anteaters (16-6-3), who made their third appearance in the Sweet 16.

Providence had 17 of the game’s 25 shots as UCI had only two shots on goal, both by senior defender Bryan Breslin.

UCI’s Michael Breslin, a junior goalkeeper, made four saves as Providence (15-4-2) advanced to the quarterfinals.

“We had our sights set on moving on, getting to the quarterfinals,” UCI Coach Chris Volk said. “Everything has got to come together in these later rounds. It’s the smallest differences that allow teams to advance.”

UCI’s 16 wins matched the 2011 squad for most in program history and the ‘Eaters’ two NCAA Tournament wins were a first.
