Mater Dei senior linebacker Ben Humphreys, a Newport Beach resident, has been selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl football game at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, on Jan. 3.

Humphreys, who’s bound for Duke University, will play for the West team, which faces the East in the annual game. The contest, which will be televised live by NBC at 10 a.m., will feature 90 of the best high school seniors in the country.

“Ben and all of the 2015 U.S. Army All-American Bowl players were selected not only for their ability on the football field, but also because they demonstrate mental, emotional and physical toughness — similar strengths to those of our Army Soldiers,” Mark S. Davis, the deputy assistant secretary of the Army for marketing, said in a press release. “We are pleased to welcome these talented athletes to this year’s showcase of athleticism, teamwork and excellence and we congratulate each of them on their selection.”
