UC Irvine senior driver Bojan Hrlec has been named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week in men’s water polo.

Hrlec scored a game-high six goals, including four in the second half, as UCI overcame a 6-4 halftime deficit to defeat Pepperdine, 13-10, in a crucial MPSF game on Sunday.

Three of his goals came in the third quarter as the ‘Eaters rallied from a 7-4 deficit early in that period.

His final goal of the day was a penalty shot with one second remaining to give UCI the three-goal margin. The ‘Eaters needed to beat the Waves by at least three goals to qualify for this weekend’s MPSF tournament in Stockton.

UCI opens action in the tourney Friday 10 a.m. against top-seeded Pacific.

Hrlec has 37 goals this season and 100 in his UCI career after transferring from West Valley College. He received honorable mention in All-American voting last season.
