MARION, Ind. — The Lions advanced to the NAIA National Championship tournament at Seacrest Soccer Complex in Delray Beach, Fla. after the win on Saturday.

Vanguard’s Juan Arellano, Brandon Gomez, Luke Kadillak and Jesus Fregoso connected during the shootout. Indiana Wesleyan went three for five in the shootout.

Brandon Gomez made 12 saves for the Lions.

Indiana Wesleyan outshot Vanguard, 21-5.

The NAIA National Championship is Dec. 1-6.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

San Jose State 91, UC Irvine 65

Sophomore Mokun Fajemisin had 17 points and 12 rebounds, but the host Anteaters committed 36 turnovers in the nonconference game Saturday.

Senior Methlyn Onogomuho had nine points and seven rebounds, while Brittany Glassow, Jenny Dee and Ashley Merrill added eight points apiece for UCI (1-3).

Shereen Sutherland had six points and seven rebounds for UCI, which won the rebounding battle, 53-40, and made 22 of 20 foul shots.

The ‘Eaters, however, were just three for 15 from three-point range and shot 33.9% from the field (20 for 59).

MEN’S WATER POLO

Pepperdine 12, UC Irvine 11

LONG BEACH — UCI squandered a three-goal lead in the fourth quarter of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament fifth-place semifinal Saturday at Long Beach State.

Lovre Milos had four goals and Matt Skinner added three for the No. 12-ranked Anteaters (15-13).

Pepperdine is 11-14.

UCI plays UC Santa Barbara in the seventh-place game on Sunday at 10 a.m.
