UCI, No. 12 seed, earns NCAA second-round berth

The UC Irvine men’s soccer team has earned a first-round bye and will play host to an NCAA Championship second-round match Sunday afternoon at Anteater Stadium.

Coach George Kuntz’s Anteaters (14-4-3) are the national No. 12 seed and will take on the winner of North Carolina and South Florida Sunday afternoon at 2 in Irvine.

The Tar Heels (8-5-5) play host to the Bulls of USF (8-3-9) in a first-round match Thursday night at 7 (ET) in Chapel Hill, N.C.

UCI is making its fourth appearance in the NCAA Championship in the past six years.

The Anteaters won the Big West Conference Tournament championship Sunday with a 1-0 win over Cal State Northridge as Cameron Iwasa scored in the 66th minute at Anteater Stadium.
