Youth Scene: Calvary Chapel Junior High girls’ basketball grabs championship

The Calvary Chapel Junior High girls’ basketball team, which features several players from Costa Mesa and Newport Beach, captured the CALOC Division 1 tournament championship with a 36-23 win over Shoreline Friday at Calvary Chapel’s gym in Santa Ana.

The Eagles, who went 5-1 and won its regular-season division, feature Madison Baumann of Costa Mesa, Ashlyn Aboytes of Costa Mesa, Cienna Cranson of Costa Mesa, Abigail O’Neil of Newport Beach, Caitlyn Harlan of Costa Mesa, Deborah Barnes of Costa Mesa and Crystal Eilerts of Costa Mesa.

It’s been several years since the Calvary Chapel Junior High girls’ basketball team has gone this far in its division.

The team’s coach, Lori Baumann, is also of Costa Mesa.
