College Roundup: Vanguard falls to Westmont

SANTA BARBARA — The No. 10-ranked Lions were denied in the Golden State Athletic Conference Tournament title game on Friday.

Liliana Ruiz scored in the 76th minute for the Lions (16-3-1), who were outshot, 17-4, by the No. 5-ranked Warriors.

Tiffany Dimaculangan had a goal and assist for the Warriors (15-3), who shared the GSAC regular-season title with Vanguard but has won both meetings with the Lions this season.

Westmont scored in the 34th minute and the 61st minute to earn the conference’s automatic berth into the NAIA Tournament.

Vanguard is expected to earn an at-large berth into the NAIA Tournament.

MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY

NCAA Regional

STANFORD — Sophomore Isaiah Thompson finished 75th to lead the Anteaters, who finished 23rd on Friday at the Stanford Golf Course.

Thompson completed the 10,000-meter course in 31 minutes, one second.

UCI’s Alex Tebbe was 95th in 31:20.4.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY

NCAA Regional

STANFORD — Kaycee Holcomb topped the UCI squad, placing 130th on Friday at the Stanford Golf Course.

Holcomb completed the 6,000-meter course in 22 minutes, 30.6 seconds.

UCI was 32nd as a team.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Northern Arizona 66, UC Irvine 35

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Freshman Brittany Glassow had nine points and six rebounds to lead the visiting Anteaters in the nonconference season opener on Friday.

Methlyn Onogomuho added sweven points for UCI, which made just 10 of 47 field-goal attempts (21.3%), and was one for 11 from three-point range.

NAU posted a 56-31 rebounding edge.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Miramar 75, Orange Coast 67 (OT)

The host Pirates led, 61-59, and gained possession of a loose ball with three seconds left in regulation. But a timeout called with no timeouts remaining prompted a technical foul, fiving the Jets two free throws they converted to force overtime in the nonconference game Friday.

Deion Page had 20 points and eight rebounds, while DeAndre Page added 16 points and seven rebounds for the Pirates (0-3), who made just four of 29 from three-point range (13.8%).

Miramar is 2-2.
