CdM girls’ tennis opens SoCal Regionals at home

The Corona del Mar High girls’ tennis team will open the CIF State Southern California Regional playoffs at home, it was revealed as brackets were released Friday.

Corona del Mar will play host to Fresno Bullard, the Central Section Division 1 runner-up, in the first round at 2 p.m. Tuesday. If the Sea Kings win, they will play either Palisades of Pacific Palisades or Laguna Beach in a regional quarterfinal at 11:30 a.m. Friday at The Claremont Club.

Regional semifinals are scheduled for later Friday, with the SoCal regional title match scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m.

This is the second straight year in SoCal Regionals for CdM (18-6), which reached the CIF Southern Section Division 1 semifinals before falling to Peninsula, 15-3.

Peninsula, which clinched its second straight Division 1 title by routing University, 16-2, on Friday, is the top seed for SoCal Regionals. The Panthers are also defending regional champions. The Nos. 2-4 seeds are San Diego Section champion Torrey Pines, University and Los Angeles City Section champion Palisades.
