High School Roundup: Sage Hill advances

Senior outside hitter Kekai Whitford finished with 13 kills, four service aces and six digs, helping the top-seeded Lightning to a 25-10, 25-12, 25-17 sweep in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 3AA playoffs at home on Tuesday.

Sage Hill (19-3), which has appeared in three straight section finals, advanced to the second round. Sage Hill plays the winner of Palmdale Highland and Moreno Valley Valley View on Thursday.

Halland McKenna had 10 kills, seven digs and three blocks for the Lightning, while Maddy Abbott amassed 31 assists and three aces.

Marymount def. Newport Harbor

LOS ANGELES — The Newport Harbor Sailors made a first-round exit in the CIF Southern Section after the Marymount Sailors won, 25-13, 25-18, 25-20, Tuesday night.

Gabby Shelley had 10 kills, Sammie Yeager had 17 digs, Logan Grove had two kills and 11 digs and Ellie Hagadorn had 26 assists and 10 digs for Newport Harbor (14-14).
