Costa Mesa cheer teams start season with huge wins

The cheerleaders from Costa Mesa High along with cheerleaders from Costa Mesa Middle School competed in their first competition of the season this past weekend and earned great success.

The varsity team from CMHS defeated Newport Harbor, Olympian, Workman, Valley, Sonora, and San Marcos. The CMHS team earned a 94.5 total score earning it not only division champions but also highest score out of all high schools and highest score for the entire competition.

In the varsity stunt group competition, Jazzy Jaime, Saydi Wright, Karly Brumbaugh, Alexis Dasca and Olivia Levalley beat two stunt teams from Newport Harbor and won first place. Varsity also won medals in individual stunting, best toe touches and best tumbling. The entire Costa Mesa teams also won the coveted Most Spirited award as well.

The varsity consists of Allie Ross, Laura Vaugious, Alyssa Lopez, Jazzy Jaime, Mckenzie Soldin, Olivia Levalley, Angel Fisk, Saydi Wright, Rachel Keane, Shannon McCormick, Karly Brumbaugh, Jordin Puerrung, Alexis Dasca, Alexis Lomeli, Kamren Hamilton, Heather Michener, Ellie Aguilar, Lea Mitani, Kate Piatti, Andrea Ross, Paige Labare, Nora Vartanian, Riley Baldwin, Collette Rhoades, Eddie Guillen, Katrina Heil, Margarita Cruz, Emilie Leath, Emily Neppl, Beatrice Maradiga and Serra Quick.

Costa Mesa Middle School participated in stunt group competition and took home first place. They also took home medals in the individual stunt competition, Toby Taber, Rachael Kricorian, Rachel Burns and Sofia Rice took home the first place in stunt group and also took second in individual stunting. Haley Wolf, Haley Scheffner, Trinity Pham and Kennedy Dutra took home third place in individual stunting.
