Plenty of wins for NAC in NARF

The Newport Aquatic Center Boys’ Varsity 4 of coxswain Ethan Ruiz and stroke Patrick Klingensmith, Reid Rolfes, Angus Batstone and Micah Adelsohn were among six first-place winners for NAC in the Newport Autumn Rowing Festival in Newport Beach on Sunday.

There were 15 teams, representing Southern California, Northern California and Arizona, that competed in NARF, which originally started in 1973, and was a high-school only event this year.

Alex Lobel of Newport Harbor High brought home a winning finish in the Boys’ Single for NAC.

The NAC Boys’ Freshman 8 of coxswain Natasha Ellis, and stroke Frank Choumas, Harley Zeiper, Jake Marlo, Blake Richter, Hayden Mccormick, Joe Skinner, Luc Levine and Peter Emmel also won, as did the NAC Novice 4.

The NAC Boys’ Varsity 8 of coxswain Marley Avritt, and stroke David Zachry, Max Clemence, Jordan Teisan, Bryant Putnam, Angus Batstone, Micah Adelsohn, Daniel Ross and Jackie Choumas finished second and four seconds behind national champion Long Beach.

The NAC Girls’ Novice 8 and the Lightweight 8 also won.

The Novice 8 team consisted of coxswain Shanny Nelson, and stroke Stephanie Daboub, Kara Bray, Gretchen Shoenberger, Ashley Coon, Maddie Long, Peyton Matthews, Bridget Shoenberger and Natalie Lowenstein.

The Lightweight 8 included coxswain Annabelle Brigandi, and stroke Kiana Viceroy, Alyx Golan, Kate Hunter, Eden Heit, Emma turner, Val Hunter, Emma Vujnovich and Alyssa Randall.

The NAC Girls’ Varsity 8 finished second, three seconds behind Long Beach.
