CdM finishes fifth in Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA — Corona del Mar finished fifth after a four-game victory Saturday against Dana Hills, 22-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-16.

Hayley Hodson led the way with 23 kills and Paige Migliori added 26 assists. Earlier in the day, Hodson had 23 kills in a four-game victory against La Costa Canyon, 25-27, 25-16, 25-19, 25-18.

After the two victories, CdM improved to 22-5 on the season.

Also at the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions, Newport Harbor High won the consolation championship after beating Santa Barbara, 25-22, 27-25, 26-24, on Saturday at Santa Barbara High.

Carolyn Bockrath had 18 kills for the Sailors (10-20), Gabby Shelley had 10 kills and Logan Grove added six. Ellie Hagadorn dished out 38 assists, and Sammie Yeager had 17 digs.

Earlier Saturday the Sailors outlasted San Marcos, 25-14, 22-25, 16-25, 25-14, 15-8, at Dos Pueblos High. Bockrath had 20 kills, and Remy Wilson added eight. Hagadorn tallied 44 assists, and Yeager had 15 digs.

Newport Harbor plays host to Marina on Tuesday in its Sunset League finale.

Newport Harbor High finished second and qualified for the CIF Southern Section Division 2 preliminaries Saturday at Central Park in Huntington Beach.

Edison won the meet with 42 points. Newport finished with 61 points, led by Erin Barth, who came in fourth in 18 minutes, 2 seconds.

Emily Bacon (11th in 18:36), Leah Van Dyke (13th in 18:41), Katelyn Mead (17th in 18:52), Lauren Loucks (21st in 19:18), Ashley Ima (22nd in 19:20) and Holly Clemence (32nd in 19:39) also competed for the Sailors.

Newport Harbor will compete in the CIF Southern Section preliminaries Nov. 16 at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut.
