CHOC Regatta set for this weekend

Share

Balboa Yacht Club and the Glass Slipper Guild will be hosting the 15th annual CHOC Regatta benefiting the Children’s Hospital of Orange County’s Children’s Post Anesthesia Care Unit in the Surgery Department on Saturday and Sunday at Balboa Yacht Club.

In 2013, the regatta raised $43,000 with the participation of 95 boats, ranging from eight-foot sabots to large-ocean-going yachts.

Balboa Yacht Club has been sponsoring this exciting event for 14 years to raise money for and to increase community awareness of the health care services available at the only facility in Orange County that is exclusively for children. The funds raised during the regatta will help ensure that services are available to children of all socio-economic backgrounds.

Registration for the CHOC Fundraiser Regatta for one-design boats 20 feet and under will be by 11:30 a.m. Saturday at BYC with a $25 entry fee and the races will begin shortly after.

After the boats return to BYC, the awards for first, second and third place for Saturday will be awarded.

Complimentary appetizers and a no-host bar will be available to all participants. A special recognition will be given to the winner of the sail-a-thon for that day.

Registration for boats over 20 feet will be at 10:30 on Sunday at BYC with a $50 entry fee.

Complimentary appetizers, a no-host bar and music will be provided for all racers, BYC members and guests. The awards ceremony for CHOC first-, second- and third-place winners, as well as the winner of the sail-a-thon and CHOC Cup will also take place.

An additional incentive for those competing to raise the most money for CHOC is the “Sail-A-Thon” which enables entrants to procure sponsorships for both their boats and their crews. The winner will receive special recognition.
