High School Roundup: Abdulghany medalist at team divisional

CIF Southern Section Team Southern Divisional

Alyaa Abdulghany shot three-under-par 67 to earn medalist honors and led Corona del Mar High to a 10th-place finish Thursday on the Mesa Linda course at Costa Mesa Country Club.

Gabby Finear and Lauren Nakamura both shot 85 for the Sea Kings and Sarah Reynoso finished with 93.

Abdulghany shot 66 at Dad Miller in Anaheim on Monday to finish third at the CIF Southern Section Southern Individual Regional. She qualified for Thursday’s CIF Southern Section WSCGA Individual Finals at Western Hills Golf Club in Chino Hills.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Costa Mesa def. Saddleback

Lisa Perlin had eight kills for the Mustangs in Thursday’s 25-18, 26-24, 25-19 Orange Coast League win.

Stephanie Willett had seven kills, and Cat Krikorian added six for Costa Mesa (6-3 in league). Kintak Keju had 22 assists, and Brenna Alvis had 17 digs.

Costa Mesa closes out league play at Calvary Chapel on Tuesday.

Edison def. Newport Harbor

Gabby Shelly had 14 kills for the Sailors, but the Chargers won 22-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-21.

Logan Grove had 11 kills, Jaclyn Brown had nine kills and Sammie Yeager had 28 digs for Newport Harbor (12-10, 5-4 in league), which plays against La Costa Canyon at 11 a.m. Friday at the Santa Barbara tournament.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Sunset League tournament

Newport Harbor High juniors Anna Burke and Kendall Cosenza finished fourth in doubles Thursday at Seal Beach Tennis Center.

Burke and Cosenza fell to Los Alamitos’ Sydney Bott and Erika Cheng, 6-4, 6-2, in the semifinals before dropping the third-place match to the No. 4-seeded Los Alamitos team, 6-2, 6-2.

Newport Harbor competes in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 team playoffs next week, with brackets released on Monday.

Orange Coast League tournament

Estancia High junior Kinley Ohland finished in third place in singles Thursday at Costa Mesa Tennis Center.

Ohland fell to Kira Hamilton of Laguna Beach, 6-0, 6-1, in the semifinals before beating Rachel Digiambattista from Calvary Chapel, 6-2, 6-2, in the third-place match.

Ohland and the Eagles, the third-place team from the Orange Coast League, await the release of the CIF Southern Section Division 2 playoff brackets Monday.
