High School Roundup: Ferrell medalist again

Newport Harbor High’s Grace Ferrell earned medalist honors for the ninth time this season after carding a one-over-par 37 at El Dorado Park Golf Course in Long Beach in a 230-238 Sunset League loss to Los Alamitos Tuesday.

Tehya Corona (47), Addison Fernandez (50), Sabrina Weiler (52) and Christina Ferraro (52) also scored for the Sailors (6-9, 2-7 in league).

Newport Harbor plays against Marina in its regular-season finale Thursday at Big Canyon Country Club.

GIRLS’ VOLLYEBALL

Sage Hill def. Oxford Academy

Jamie Bailey had 10 kills and 10 digs to help lead the Lightning to a 25-15, 25-12, 25-13 Academy League win at home Tuesday.

Halland McKenna had eight kills, three aces and 11 digs, Sophie Gordon had seven kills and Emily Lassiter had five kills for Sage Hill (15-4, 6-0 in league), ranked No. 1 in CIF Southern Section Division 3-A.

The Lightning play host to Calvary Chapel Downey Thursday at 5 p.m.

Hayley Hodson had 11 kills to help lead the Sea Kings to a 25-23, 25-21, 25-16 Pacific Coast League win Tuesday.

Jules Pouch had six kills and Jessie Harris had 23 assists for CdM (14-4, 4-0 in league), ranked No. 1 in CIF Southern Section Division 1-AA.

Lehua Jordan had 11 kills to help lead the host Eagles to a 25-23, 25-16, 25-11 Orange Coast League win Monday.

Estancia is 3-1 in league.

Corona del Mar 12, Beckman 7

Senior Jay Neiger and junior Jack Trush scored three goals each for the host Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League match Tuesday.

Senior Matt Sherburne had two goals, while senior Ryan Hamm made five saves and junior Nigel Bress made six saves for CdM, ranked No. 1 in CIF Southern Section Division 1.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Corona del Mar 18, Irvine 0

The Sea Kings dominated singles, only dropping one game in nine sets in the Pacific Coast League match Tuesday.

Sophomore Elena Fish won 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, freshman Jasie Dunk won 6-0, 6-0 ,6-0 and sophomore Siena Sharf won 6-0, 6-0, 6-1 for CdM (11-2), ranked No. 4 in CIF Southern Section Division 1.

Sage Hill 15, Crean Lutheran 3

Jaclyn Gerschultz and Amira Tarsadia each swept in singles, while the Lightning doubles took eight of nine sets in the Academy League match at the Tennis Club Newport Beach Tuesday.

Briana Rayhaun and Connie Yu won twice at No. 1 doubles before being subbed out for Sage Hill (7-3, 4-1 in league) ranked No. 8 in CIF Southern Section Division 2.

Sage plays for first place in league Friday at No. 9 St. Margaret’s.

Clovis Invitational

FRESNO — Newport Harbor High competed in the Sweepstakes Division, 5K Saturday at Woodward Park.

Erin Barth led the Sailors, finishing 55th in 19 minutes, 9 seconds.

Lauren Loucks (105th in 18:56), Ashley Ima (108th in 19:59), Leah Van Dyke (118th in 10:07), Katelyn Mead (124th in 20:13), Holly Clemence (142nd in 20:54) and Grace Clemence (145th in 21:03) also competed for Newport Harbor.
