High School Roundup: NHHS beats Edison in five

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Newport Harbor def. Edison

Carolyn Bockrath had 19 kills and three aces to help lead the host Sailors to a 20-25, 25-14, 22-25, 25-18, 15-12 Sunset League win Tuesday.

Leah Castillo had 15 kills, Remy Wilson had 14 kills and Elle Hagadorn had 49 assists for Newport Harbor (4-14, 1-1 in league).

Logan Grove had 18 digs and two aces, Sami Yeager had 20 digs and Kaitlynn Bell had four aces and 11 digs for the Sailors, who play host to Fountain Valley on Thursday.

Edison dropped to 1-2 in league.

Corona del Mar def. Woodbridge

Jessie Harris had 17 kills to lead the visiting Sea Kings to a 25-13, 23-25, 24-26, 25-20, 15-10 Pacific Coast League win Monday.

Samantha Jones had 10 kills and Emma Cubiero had four aces for CdM, which was without Hayley Hodson, who is competing in Mexico.

Laguna Beach def. Estancia

Abby Griffith had six kills for the visiting Eagles, but the Breakers won the Orange Coast League match, 25-16, 25-20, 25-19, Monday.

Estancia is 1-1 in league.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Corona del Mar 10, Woodbridge 9

Senior Matt Sherburne and junior Jack Trush scored three goals each for the visiting Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League game Tuesday.

Senior Jay Neiger and sophomore Den Brooks scored two goals each for CdM (6-5, 2-0 in league).

Goalie Ryan Hamm made seven saves and goalie Nigel Bress made five saves for the Sea Kings, who were tied, 6-6, at the half.

Costa Mesa Tournament

Estancia High lost twice Monday, falling to Ocean View, 15-5, and Tustin, 13-3.

Cody Nelson and Eli Sperling scored two goals each against Ocean View. Jason Cheseboro scored twice against Tustin, when goalie Caesar Coto made eight saves.

Sage Hill split its first two games in the tournament, falling to Trabuco Hills, 13-5, before beating Whittier, 10-3.

GIRLS’ GOLF

Corona del Mar 202, Woodbridge 232

Amy Matsuoka earned medalist honors for the Sea Kings after shooting one-over-par 36 at Newport Beach Country Club Tuesday.

Alyaa Abdulghany (38), Gabby Finear (42), Karlie Moses (43) and Hanna Hogan (43) also scored for CdM (10-1, 7-1 in league), which plays against Aliso Niguel Wednesday at NBCC.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Sage Hill 16, Whitney 2

Jaclyn Gerschultz (6-2, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles) and Amira Tarsadia (6-0, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles) both swept for the visiting Lightning in an Academy League match Tuesday.

Crystal Yu and Abby Ruck swept at No. 3 doubles, and Celine Wang won twice at No. 1 singles before being subbed out for Sage Hill (6-2, 3-1 in league), which is ranked No. 5 in CIF Southern Section Division 5.

Corona del Mar 14, Beckman 4

Jamie Adamson Elena Fish and Erica Chen won two sets each in singles for the host Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League match Tuesday.

Paige Kenerson subbed in for a 6-1 win in singles for CdM (9-2, 3-1 in league), which plays host to Northwood Thursday at 3 p.m.

Calvary Chapel 12, Estancia 6

Kinley Ohland swept No. 1 singles for host Estancia in the Orange Coast League match Tuesday.

Estancia is 6-6, 2-2 in league.
