College Roundup: UCI men’s golf wins in Mexico

LOS CABOS, Mexico — UC Irvine overcame a 13-shot deficit to win the event completed Tuesday at Cabo del sol Golf Club.

The Anteaters’ 54-hole team total was 882, one shot better than San Francisco, which led after two rounds.

Junior Pete Fernandez shot a final-round 72 and finished at 218 to finish fourth individually to help UCI record its first tournament win since the 2010 Big West Conference Championship.

Senior Travis Russell (13th at 221), senior Allan Jun and sophomore Jacob Schulze (tied for 21st at 224), and freshman Ryan O’Connor (35th at 229) also stood out for the ‘Eaters.

UCI plays in the Bull Cullum Invitational in Simi Valley on Oct. 21-22.

MEN’S SOCCER

Orange Coast 1, Irvine Valley 0

Jacob Rushing scored in the 64th minute for the visiting Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference match Tuesday.

Pedro Erhechury provided the assist for OCC (3-3-1, 2-1-0 in conference).

Goalie Connor Nelson made five saves for the Pirates.

IVC is 3-3-1, 2-1-0.
