College Roundup: Lopp scores four goals for Vanguard

Vanguard 8, San Diego Christian 1

SANTEE — Sophomore forward Madison Lopp had four goals, while junior Danyelle Allen had one goal and three assists to lead the visiting Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference contest on Tuesday.

No. 12-ranked Vanguard (9-2, 3-1 in conference), also received one goal and one assist from sophomore Nicole Dunn.

Megan Stoll and Madison Cody Farell added goals for the winners.

San Diego Christian is 6-4-1, 1-3.

UC Irvine 1, UC Riverside 0

Claudia Lopez converted an assist by Noel Baham in the 64th minute to lift the host Anteaters in the Big West Conference opener on Sunday.

Corey Tobin made four saves to earn her fifth shutout of the season and help UCI improve to 5-6-1.

UC Riverside, which posted a 10-7 advantage in shots, fell to 6-6.

UCI visits Cal State Northridge on Thursday at 7 p.m.

MEN’S SOCCER

Irvine Valley 2, Orange Coast 0

The host Pirates posted a 15-6 advantage in shots in the Orange Empire Conference game on Tuesday.

Toby Waterman scored in the 22nd minute and Jose Rivera doubled the score in the 44th minute for the Lasers (6-2-2, 3-0 in conference).

OCC fell to 3-5-1, 2-1-1.

Vanguard 2, San Diego Christian 0

SANTEE — Luke Kadillak and Daniel Yo scored for the No. 3-ranked Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference match on Tuesday.

Kadillak’s goal was on a penalty kick in the 59th minute. Zac Way assisted Yo’s goal on a throw-in in the 83rd minute.

Goalie Brandon Gomez made two saves in his shutout for Vanguard (10-1, 4-0 in conference).

San Diego Christian is 7-5, 2-2.

MEN’S GOLF

Cabo del Sol Intercollegiate

LOS CABOS, Mexico — senior Jacob Schulze and sophomore David Kim finished tied for 25th to help UC Irvine place ninth as a team in the event completed Tuesday at the Cabo del Sol Ocean Course.

Schulze shot three-over-par 75 on Tuesday, while Kim shot 79 to post a 54-hole total of 222.

Sophomore Jonathan Young (31st at 225), sophomore Johnny Hyun (42nd at 229) and Bryan Shin placed (48th at 233) also cracked the top 50 for the Anteaters/

The ‘Eaters return to action Oct. 19-20 in the Bill Cullum Invitational at Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley.
