Leigh Steinberg remembers the National Concussion Summit in 2005 that took place in Los Angeles.

He and his friend, Warren Moon, the Hall of Fame quarterback, as well as the Sports Concussion Institute, presented the event that Steinberg described as “groundbreaking and definitely interesting.”

Back then, Dr. Bennet Omalu and Dr. Julian Bailes attended the event, among others. It was then when Omalu announced his discovery that three or more concussions can lead to long-term danger, such as depression, Alzheimer’s and Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), Steinberg said.

Fast forward to now and many are awaiting the movie, “Concussion,” set for theaters this Christmas. Omalu, played by Will Smith, is the central character in the film about the doctor’s discovery of football-related brain trauma and his fight against the NFL to bring more safety and awareness.

Bailes is played by Alec Baldwin. Steinberg says he read the movie script and offered suggestions. He also said he will soon get to see the movie before its release.

Steinberg stays busy these days. He’s back in town after a recent trip to the Midwest, where he spoke about various topics, including concussion and his book. His autobiography, “The Agent,” a New York Times best seller is now offered in paperback.

Steinberg will be at a book signing for “The Agent,” at the Fashion Island Barnes & Noble on Thursday at 6 p.m.

During his trip he also spoke at universities, including Chicago and Northwestern. He said the trip concluded with his speaking at Chicago, the 86th university he has lectured at.

Steinberg also conducted his Agent Academy, a sports agent boot camp for those aspiring to be a sports agent, “the right way,” he said.

Steinberg plans to have the Agent Academy in San Francisco next month. He says he’ll also visit Arizona.

He’ll speak on a wide range of topics at the book signing and will also mostly likely have a time for questions from those who attend.

Steinberg continues to work as a sports agent as well. He is pleased that three of his players made NFL rosters, tight end Khari Lee for the Bears, quarterback Taylor Heinicke for the Vikings and offensive guard Ben Beckwith, who’s on injured reserve for the Dolphins.

He says the 2016 NFL Draft is the one where he plans to sign players who are selected higher.
