High School Roundup: Chesemore’s seven goals leads Estancia to win

Estancia 14, Santa Ana Valley 3

Jason Chesemore scored seven goals in Tuesday’s nonleague game at Estancia High.

Kyle Fitzgerald scored twice for Estancia (3-7), while Brett Cooke, Cobi White, Victor Godfrey, Joseph Carrillo and Victor Castillo added single goals.

Eizik Leyva made 12 saves for the Eagles, who play host to Lakeside on Wednesday.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Peninsula 12, Corona del Mar 6

Camellia Edalat and Erica Chen swept at No. 1 doubles for the Sea Kings in Tuesday’s nonleague match at CdM.

The teams of Paige Kenerson and Emily Freyman, as well as Shaya Northrup and Bella McKinney, each won one doubles set for CdM (3-1), ranked No. 4 in CIF Southern Section Division 1. Jasie Dunk won once in singles.

Peninsula, the top-ranked team in Division 1 and defending CIF champion, got singles sweeps from seniors Ena Shibahara and Sara Khattab.

Sunset League Preview Meet

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Newport Harbor finished fourth as a team at the meet at Central Park on Tuesday.

Sailors junior Ben Wilson finished second individually in 15:35. He was followed by junior Mark Field (eighth, 16:08), senior Erik Herrera (14th, 16:35.2), junior Anthony Agama (28th, 17:12.2), junior SeanLiam McCarthy (17:13.4, junior Jake Smith (46th, 19:14) and senior Jack McKasson (47th, 19:35.1).

Newport’s boys race next at the Dana Hills Invitatioal on Saturday.

Academy League Cluster Meet

IRVINE — Sage Hill finished fourth in the meet Tuesday at Mason Park.

Scoring runners included senior Calvin Shimano (ninth, 17:05), freshman Kylen Patel (10th, 17:06), freshman Luke Nataupsky (21st, 18:00), senior Cam Knollenberg (23rd, 18:19) and senior Jacob Diaz (26th, 18:29).

GIRLS’ CROSS COUNTRY

Sunset League Preview Meet

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Newport Harbor finished sixth in the meet at Central Park on Tuesday, placed by senior Emily Bacon, who was fifth individually in 18:32.8.

Senior Holly Clemence was 14th in 18:53.4, and freshman Mia Matsunami was 23rd in 19:32.5. Other placers included freshman Claire Bacon (37th, 22:06.9), senior Johanna Camberos (40th, 23:12.3), senior Erika Madrigal (41st, 23:17.5) and junior Estefani Gomez (43rd, 24:51.5).

Newport’s girls race next at the Palos Verdes Invitational on Oct. 3.

Academy League Cluster Meet

IRVINE — Sage Hill finished second in the meet Tuesday at Mason Park.

Junior Julia Lowe was second individually in 19:08, while freshman Emma Dicknson was third in 19:20 and freshman Maya Jaffe was eighth in 20:29. Freshman Olivia Lowe (18th, 21:44) and senior Kurisa Suhr (20th, 21:58) also competed for the Lightning.

GIRLS’ GOLF

Corona del Mar 197, University 206

Amy Matsuoka earned medalist honors after she shot two-under-par 33 for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League match at Newport Beach Country Club on Tuesday.

Celine Niu (38), Gabby Finear (38), Sophie Song (44) and Sarah Reynoso (44) also scored for CdM (7-0, 3-0 in league), which was without standout Alyaa Abdulghany, who was competing in Canada.

Long Beach Milikan 231, Estancia 256

Violet Amory had the low for the Eagles with a 46 in the nonleague match at Costa Mesa Country Club’s par-35 course on Monday.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Corona del Mar def. Villa Park

Jessie Harris and Natalia Bruening had seven kills each for the Sea Kings, who scored a 25-16, 25-23, 25-16 nonleague win on Tuesday.

Sydney Alacano (five kills), Kendall Kipp (five kills), Ashley Humphreys (four kills) and Payton Carter (11 digs) also helped CdM improve to 9-1.

The Sea Kings play host to San Clemente Thursday.

Estancia def. Santa Ana Valley

The Eagles swept Tuesday’s nonleague match, 25-20, 25-20, 25-23.
