High School Roundup: Sage Hill girls’ volleyball scores win over Laguna Beach

NEWPORT BEACH — Sage Hill School scored a huge 25-20, 25-14 pool-play win against Laguna Beach Friday at Newport Harbor.

Kekai Whitford led the way with nine kills and 12 digs, while Halland Mckenna had 11 kills and two aces and Maddy Abbott had 24 assists and two kills for Sage Hill (7-3).

Whitford had 10 kills and six digs against Orange Lutheran, which won, 25-20, 25-20. Mckenna had eight kills and five digs.

The Lightning play against Northwood Saturday at 10 a.m. at Newport Harbor to close out pool play.

CORONA DEL MAR — Corona del Mar High won both of its pool-play matches Friday at CdM.

The Sea Kings opened with a 25-17, 23-25, 15-5 win over Goleta Dos Pueblos.

CdM then beat Tesoro, 25-19, 26-28, 15-7.

The Sea Kings close out pool play Saturday morning against Chaparral at CdM.

NEWPORT BEACH — Newport Harbor High split its first two matches in pool play Friday at its gym.

The Sailors (1-3) opened with a 21-25, 25-20, 15-13 win, their first victory of the season. Carolyn Bockrath led with 10 kills, while Gabby Shelley and Remy Wilson had seven kills each and Ellie Hagadorn had 17 assists.

Capistrano Valley then beat Newport Harbor, 25-23, 25-23. Bockrath had nine kills, Wilson had seven and Logan Grove had 11 assists.

The Sailors continue pool play Saturday morning against Lakewood.
