Newport Harbor High senior Hayden Hemmens has been selected for the Rescue 2014 Life Saving World Championships, held in Montpellier and La Grande Motte, France beginning Tuesday.

Hemmens is going as part of the United States Lifesaving Assn. Youth National Team. He is part of the 12-guard roster, featuring six boys and six girls, which was selected to compete in the bi-annual event based on criteria including past performances at national events, endurance and versatility in the pool and on the beach.

Hemmens, a Newport Beach lifeguard, is the only one on the U.S. Youth National Team from Orange County.
