Sage Hill def. Windward

NEWPORT COAST — Junior outside hitter Kekai Whitford produced 12 kills, 13 digs and two service aces in a 25-20, 25-22, 25-23 sweep by the Lightning on Tuesday.

Halland McKenna finished with 11 kills, 13 digs and two aces for Sage Hill (6-2), ranked No. 1 in the CIF Southern Section Division 3-A poll.

Sage Hill’s Allie Mowrey had 15 digs against Los Angeles Windward, ranked No. 2 in Division 3-AA.

Sage Hill is at the Dave Mohs Championships on Friday. The school is competing in the Division 1 tournament.

Laguna Beach def. Newport Harbor

NEWPORT BEACH — Carolyn Bockrath 19 kills and two blocks for the Sailors, but the Breakers won the nonleague match, 25-23, 25-18, 21-25, 25-14, Tuesday.

Gabby Shelley added nine kills and seven blocks and Logan Grove had 33 assists and four digs for Newport Harbor (0-2), which next plays in the Dave Mohs Memorial Tournament Friday at Newport Harbor.

Corona del Mar 204, Beckman 208

NEWPORT BEACH — Amy Matsuoka and Alyaa Abdulghany both shot one-over-par 36 to earn medalist honors for the Sea Kings in their Pacific Coast League opener Tuesday at Newport Beach Country Club.

Karlie Moses (40), Gabby Finear (44) and Kelley King (48) also scored for CdM (2-0).

The Sea Kings play against Dana Hills Thursday at El Niguel Country Club.

FIELD HOCKEY

Newport Harbor 4, Louisville 0

NEWPORT BEACH — Caroline Gels, Sophie Templin, Riley Flanagan and Jordan Blanchfield scored for the Sailors in their nonleague win Monday.

Gels scored off a deflection from a shot by Alex Palmer. Mia Bagiu assisted Flanagan’s goal and Flanagan had the assist on Blanchfield’s goal.

Newport Harbor won its bracket with three wins at the Otay Ranch Tournament in San Diego on Saturday and advanced to this Saturday’s quarterfinals.

The Sailors beat Mission Hills, 2-0, as Blanchfield and Flanagan scord. Templin and Gles had an assist each.

Newport Harbor also had a 2-0 win over Santana. Templin and Alex Palmer scored.

The Sailors earned an 8-0 win over Chula Vista with goals by Templin, Blanchfield, Gels, Palmer, Flanagan, Elizabeth Muenchow, and Noelle Hubbard.

Newport Harbor plays at Glendora on Thursday.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Corona del Mar 12, Tesoro 6

CORONA DEL MAR — Senior Lauren Thaxter won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles before being subbed out of the Sea Kings’ regular-season opener Tuesday at CdM.

Seniors Kimmia Naaseh and Kenzie Purcifull swept at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, 6-0 and 6-2, for CdM, coming off a victory Saturday at the California Team Classic tournament in Clovis.

CdM plays at Dana Hills on Wednesday.

Orange 10, Estancia 8

COSTA MESA — Kinley Ohland swept at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, for the Eagles in the nonleague match Tuesday.

Slade Garnett swept at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 7-5, 6-0 for Estancia (1-1).

The Eagles play host to Bolsa Grande Wednesday at 3 p.m.

Mira Costa 16, Newport Harbor 2

NEWPORT BEACH — Kate Knight earned a win at No. 1 singles, 6-2, for the Sailors in the nonleague match Tuesday.

Annie LaGrandeur and Reagan Rutter, Newport Harbor’s No. 2 doubles team, won, 6-3.

The Sailors (5-2) play host to Tesoro on Thursday.

IRVINE — Junior Amira Tarsadia and sophomore Jaclyn Gerschultz earned wins for the Lightning in the nonleague match Tuesday.

Tarsadia won, 6-2, and Gerschultz won, 6-1 for Sage Hill (1-1)

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Lakeside 12, Estancia 4

Cody Nelson scored two goals for Estancia in the nonleague game Tuesday.

Jason Chesemore and Chris DeFrenza added one goal each and goalie Shawn Lepard made nine saves.
