UC Irvine 2, Iona 2 (2 OT)

IRVINE — Trey Hayes and Enrique Cardenas scored for the host Anteaters in the nonconference clash on Sunday.

Thomas Janjigian had the assist on Hayes’ goal in the 25th minute that tied the score, 1-1.

Cardenas put UCI (1-0-1) ahead in the 37th minute with an assist from Cameron Iwasa.

UCI had a 24-8 shot advantage and took all eight of the game’s corner kicks. Iwasa led UCI with seven shots, one more than Cardenas.

Michael Breslin had two saves for UCI, which plays next at San Diego State on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Iona is 0-1-1.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Denver 3, UC Irvine 2

IRVINE — Cami Privett and Mady Solow had tying goals in the 27th and 63rd minute for the host Anteaters in the nonconference contest on Sunday.

Bianca Frontino and Natalia Ledezma earned assists on Privett’s goal, while Laura McGrail had the assist on the other score.

Corey Tobin had three saves for UCI (1-3), which was outshot, 13-10, by the Pioneers (4-0).

UCI visits Oregon State on Friday at 7 p.m.

Ventura tournament

VENTURA — Orange Coast College posted a 2-0 victory over Pasadena on Friday, after dueling San Diego Mesa to a 0-0 deadlock on Thursday in the Pirates’ two tournament games.

Emily Harrier posted a pair of shutouts, while Shelle Zito and Aly Vargas had the two goals for OCC.

Karly Freeman had both assists for OCC, which plays host to Rio Hondo on Wednesday at 2 p.m.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY

Mark Covert Classic

FULLERTON — Sophomore Leanne Allen finished 26th overall to lead Orange Coast College to the team open division title on Saturday at Carbon Canyon Park.

Allen finished the 3.1-mile course in 19 minutes, 22.3 seconds.

Sophomore Karen Silvas was 28th in 19:23.9, while freshman Kristie Son (54th in 20:05), freshman Guadalupe Cantoran (59th in 20:09.2) and sophomore Raeanna Cortez (67th in 20:19.5) rounded out the scorers for the Pirates.

OCC totaled 25 points, well ahead of Concordia (60) and Glendale (67).

OCC competes at the Fresno Invitational on Saturday at Woodward Park.

MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY

Mark Covert Classic

FULLERTON — The Pirates finished third in the open team scoring, as Lucio Ramirez led the way in the 8K course on Saturday at Carbon Canyon Park.

Ramirez finished 27th overall in 26 minutes, 46.3 seconds. Other top OCC finishers included sophomore Jose Ortiz (29th in 26:48.5) and Luis Morales (38th in 27:02.2).

OCC returns to action on Saturday at the Fresno Invitational at Woodward Park.
