CMAC makes splash at Beach Cup

Summertime has come and gone in Southern California and the Costa Mesa Aquatics Club ended it with a splash.

The 12U boys and 14U boys put together teams to compete in the sixth annual Beach Water Polo Cup.

Beach polo has a few different rules — only four field players and a goalie — “crazy ball” would be a better way to describe it.

Going on a continuous 30-minute clock, the teams play as many matches to five goals in the time frame. The teams with the most victories in the time frame, win.

The CMAC 12U boys playing under the name CMAC ATTACK only fell to the two teams from United Polo in a shootout losing by one to take third place overall.

The 14U boys playing as CMAC Green Thunder ended as sixth overall with a dramatic shootout win over the Swag Masters.

Playing in this tournament provided the CMAC athletes a great venue for team bonding, but also made the players stronger, playing in 60-degree water with currents and the smaller courses made them play both physically and mentally tougher.

The club polo season begins again in October.
