“From the standpoint of the club it would make for some really nice local support if one or a few of them qualified for the championship,” said Warren Caves, a Big Canyon member and co-chair of the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship. “All good players. It wouldn’t surprise me if one or two of those guys make it. That would be fun.”

Peter Daley and Steve Rhorer of Costa Mesa and Scott Lucas of Corona del Mar are also in Monday’s qualifier at La Jolla.

Starting times at La Jolla range from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Results will be posted at https://www.scga.org.

Sectional qualifying ends Aug. 27 and will have been played at 51 sites throughout the country.

Admission to the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship at Big Canyon is free.
