The host Broncos outshot UCI, 13-8, with a 7-4 edge in shots on goal.

In the 15th minute, Santa Clara broke through to take a 1-0 lead off the head of Sofia Huerta, who scored both goals. Danu Weatherholt sent a pass into the center of the box that Huerta deflected into the right side of the goal.

The Anteaters nearly tied the game with under four minutes left in the match off a corner kick. Jenna Pellegrino sent the corner into the box where Cami Privett got a head on the ball but it was saved by goalie Andi Tostanoski right at the crossbar.

With 10 seconds left in the game, Huerta scored her second goal on a penalty kick to close out the scoring.

The schedule doesn’t get any easier for UCI in its next match when it travels to defending national champion and top-ranked UCLA at 6 p.m. Sunday.
