Knapp’s run ends at U.S. Amateur

Jake Knapp, the former Estancia High golf standout, reached the round of 16, but was ousted, playing in his first U.S. Amateur Thursday at Olympia Fields Country Club in Olympia Fields, Ill.

Austin James of Canada defeated Knapp 2 and 1 in the round of 16.

Knapp, a UCLA senior, had reached the round of 16 after beating Chelseo Barrett of Surry, N.H. 1 up in the round of 32 Thursday morning.

Knapp, with his father, Bob, as caddy, finished third in stroke play after shooting five-under-par 135 (70-65).
