Musselman commits to UCLA

Maddie Musselman, who was the Pacific Coast League MVP the past two seasons with Corona del Mar High, has committed to UCLA.

Maddie Musselman’s recent tweets on Twitter are all about blue and gold.

The former Corona del Mar High standout announced that she has committed to play water polo at UCLA. She also added a few emoji to her tweet, a blue heart, a gold heart and a Bruin.

Musselman, 17, is determined to make the U.S. women’s national team for next year’s Olympics. Another recent tweet included gold, as in the U.S. team she was on won gold at the FINA World Championships in Russia.

“It’s something that I’ve always dreamed of,” Musselman said in March when she enrolled in the private online school Laurel Springs.

She de-enrolled at CdM as a junior so she could train full-time with the U.S. senior national team.

The Bruins will be gaining a star player in Musselman, who was the 2013-14 Newport-Mesa Player of the Year and on the Dream Team last season. She had a stellar junior season for CdM, with team-highs of 98 goals, 58 steals and 37 assists. She helped the Sea Kings win another Pacific Coast League title and advance to the semifinals of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs, where they lost to top-seeded eventual champion Laguna Beach.

She was named Pacific Coast League MVP the past two seasons, as well as first-team All-CIF Southern Section Division 1.
