Water Polo: Gilchrist headed to Russia

Newport Harbor High product Kaleigh Gilchrist has been selected to the U.S. women’s senior national water polo team roster for the upcoming FINA World Cup.

Gilchrist is one of 13 players who will compete for Team USA at the event, set for Tuesday through Aug. 17 in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia. The U.S. will look to defend its World Cup championship won in 2010 in New Zealand.

Gilchrist, who graduated from USC this year, helped the Trojans win the NCAA title in 2013. She has been training with the senior national team this year and helped Team USA win gold at the Kirishi Cup in Russia last month.

Team USA, coached by Adam Krikorian, has group play games against South Africa, Australia and Hungary at the FINA World Cup.
