Beach Volleyball: Gibb, Patterson ninth

KLAGENFURT, Austria — Costa Mesa resident Jake Gibb and his partner, Casey Patterson from Huntington Beach, were eliminated in the round of 16 on Saturday at the Federation Internationale de Volleyball Grand Slam beach volleyball tournament.

Gibb and Patterson, the No. 16-seeded men’s pair, were swept, 21-19, 21-15, by No. 4-seeded Aleksandrs Samoilovs and Janis Smedins of the Slavik Republic.

Gibb and Patterson finish tied for ninth and will play next at the Assn. of Volleyball Professionals Salt Lake City Open in Utah, running Thursday through Aug. 10.
