Women’s Soccer: de Seriere joins UCI staff

Danielle de Seriere, a former standout goalkeeper for UC Irvine, has joined the Anteaters women’s soccer program as an assistant coach.

The Big West Conference Goalkeeper of the Year in 2010, de Seriere is UCI’s career leader in with (43), shutouts (31) and lowest goals-against average (0.80). Her 11 shutouts during the squad’s 2010 run to the NCAA Tournament are a single-season record at the school.

She played professionally with Dutch club FC Twente for a couple seasons before returning to the United States.

“I am very excited to be able to hire such a wonderful person, fierce competitor, and alumna of our program,” UCI Coach Scott Juniper said. “Danielle was a driving force in taking the program from a 0-7 conference record to 8-0 in just four years, and captained our team to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

“Our players will benefit from her every day they are around her experience, her character, and her mentality to be the best she can be.”

The former goalkeeper was an NSCAA Scholar-Athlete First-Team All-American her senior year.

UCI opens the 2014 season at Santa Clara on Aug. 22.
