CdM polo girls take silver at State Championships

The Corona del Mar High girls’ water polo team finished second in the club California High School Championships at CdM on Sunday.

The Sea Kings advanced to the gold-medal match before falling to top-seeded Laguna Beach, the defending CIF Southern Section Division 1 champion, 9-2.

CdM, led by new head coach Kevin Ricks, defeated Capistrano Valley, Riverside Poly, Royal, San Ramon Valley and Foothill on its way to the final.

CdM contributors included Sarah Lawson, Parker Hoffman, Devon Cooper, Jaleh Moaddeli, Abigail Klein, Tia DiGiovanni, Kelly Morgan, Sophie Wallace, Chloe Harbilas, Emily Ritner, Erin Tharp, Bridgett Storm, Caitlin Harvey and Layne Anzaldo.

Newport Harbor’s girls defeated Santa Barbara, 8-1, to claim 13th place in the 48-team tournament.

Newport Harbor’s boys placed eighth, and CdM’s boys took 11th place.
