Breakers win in New York

The Orange County Breakers won four of five sets to defeat the New York Sportimes, 20-13, in a Mylan World Team Tennis match on the road on Wednesday night.

With the victory, the Breakers (6-3) remain tied with Springfield atop the Western Conference standings.

Steve Johnson won in both singles and doubles Wednesday. He defeated Jesse Witten, 5-3, in singles and teamed with Treat Huey to top Robert Kendrick and John McEnroe, 5-2, in doubles. Coco Vandeweghe defeated former Breaker Anna-Lena Groenefeld, 5-2, in women’s singles, and Vandeweghe and Maria Elena Camerin beat Groenefeld and Kveta Peschke, 5-1, in women’s doubles.

New York won its lone set in mixed doubles, where McEnroe and Peschke blanked Camerin and Huey, 5-0.

Orange County plays at Philadelphia on Friday.
